Monthly Message for April from State Deputy
Don McBride
“So that the world
may know new hope”
|
Kennewick, WA - April 2013 Happy and Blessed Easter!
I pray that you’ve all had a fruitful Lenten season and have now shared the joy of Easter with your loved ones.
March proved to be a very busy but bountiful month, starting with the outstanding Seattle Men’s Conference in
Monroe, and followed closely by a 100 th Anniversary of the presence of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in
Spokane, a Hispanic Recruitment event in Des Moines, the Tri-Cities Encounter in Pasco/Kennewick, Catholic
Advocacy Day in Olympia, and the State Free Throw Competition in Yakima. Every one of these events
represented a significant effort by many people, and although I racked up a few miles on my truck getting to all these events and a few
additional side trips along the way, I can honestly say that this was one of the most fruitful months I’ve enjoyed as your State Deputy. I
offer my sincere thanks to all I encountered along the way and all who worked to make these events successful. more...

"Love and Gratitude Gifts to Give"
|
|
During this time of Christmas and gift giving, let us take
a moment to reflect on the meaning of gifts by slightly moving away from the images
of stores crowded with people, prices, etc. Let us think of what a gift simply means.
From my point of view, a gift should consist of two qualities to really be considered
a real gift: One, it must be something given out of free will showing affection,
appreciation or gratitude; Second, when a gift is given, one should only show happiness
and not expect to receive anything in return. Because of these two qualities, I
believe that there are many gifts that are far from the above mentioned because
it is more of an investment or trade or to put it in other words, it is something
materialistic that entails compensation. From the point of view of the person who
receives a gift, some ideas should also be put into consideration: First, one should
recognize with appreciation that a gift is above all else a sign of affection and
gratitude and in that sense worth more than its monetary value and second, using
the gift in a way of honoring the person that gave us the gift.

FS’s SUBMIT YOUR 990’S
In the last few years, we as an Order have seen some changes from the IRS. One of those changes is their insistence that we file an annual 990 Form whether that is the 990–N Postcard (most of us) the 990-EZ or the 990 long form. Regardless of which form is used, it is important that this get done. Failure to comply results in a council loosing their tax-exempt status and that is really not a good thing. To re-apply takes quite a bit of time and effort and now quite a bit of money- $800. Avoid all of that by simply filing the Form 990 yearly. Now is the time! If you have questions call your State Advocate.
CONVENTION RESOLUTIONS
We have a number of interesting Resolutions to vote on during the State Convention. Thank you to the Councils who took the time to write one and to have it approved by your Council. On April 15th, copies of the Resolutions will be distributed to the Councils; the Council then reviews them and advises their delegates on how to vote. The resolution is then voted on at the State Convention.

doing our part in keeping Bishop White Seminary a center for evangelization and
