Welcome to the State of Washington Military Affairs Home

2009-2010 Chairman
Frank Hyke
My name is Franklin Hyke. I would like to thank State Deputy John Wallace for appointing me as your Assistant for Military Affairs State Chairman. I am excited about this opportunity. I am a veteran of the military, serving 23 years in the US Army. I was deployed from Ft. Lewis Washington in support of the Cuban missile crisis, convoyed through East German into Berlin where I experienced a wake up call as a young soldier due to looking back at history during WWII on the East German side and see that it was still bombed out from the war and the West German side was like any US city with high-rise buildings. I fought in the Vietnam War 1966-67 with a second tour in 1969-70. I received the Silver Star, Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal for Valor, a Vietnam Service Ribbon, and a Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. I had the honor of serving in seven major campaigns.
For my first article I would like you to read  the commendable talk given by Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio at the Memorial Mass for Fr Vincent Capodanno at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC on Sep 3, 2009. Fr Capodanno wore the biretta of a priest, toiled as a missionary in Taiwan, and died as a chaplain to the marines in Vietnam War.
