Pennies For Heaven Frequently Asked Questions
The Pennies For Heaven Goal letters have gone out and I have been receiving questions regarding the program. This column will attempt to answer some of the more frequently asked questions.
What period of time does the goal cover? While the goal is based on December membership, it is for the 2011-2012 which starts on July 1, 2011 and ends on July 31, 2012. Note that while the fraternal year ends on June 30, the PFH year is extended by 1 month.
Are there any awards? Each council that meets or exceeds its goal will receive a 365 Certificate. In addition, four plaques will be awarded for Highest Dollar Amount and First, Second and Third Highest Percent of Goal. The awards are based on the amount received by June 30th.
Is our council required to pay the goal? No. The goal is a suggestion not an assessment – that is to say, council it are not required to submit a check for the goal amount. The goal amount represents “a penny a day” for each active member. Many councils contribute more than their goal, others contribute less. The point is every penny counts and it all goes for a worthy cause – the support of our seminarians in the three dioceses in Washington State.
Where do I send the PFH check from our council? You can either mail your checks directly to the State Secretary, George Czerwonka, or bring them with you to the State Convention and drop them off in the PFH room.
