Scarves for 2011 Winter Games
While the 2010 Winter Games are just behind us, one intrepid volunteer is already preparing for next year's
games. Vanessa Hailey of Day Creek, Washington has started a project to outfit
all of the participants in the 2011 Winter Games in a red and white scarf.
Ms. Hailey has created a blog and mobilized an online crochet group with the goal to create handmade
scarves for each of the athletes. She has posted patterns on her blog and will
collect all of the scarves by late February, 2011. Anyone who is interested in
knitting or crocheting is welcome to participate. Scarves need to be
approximately 5" wide by 55" long, either crocheted or knitted, with
the colors Red Heart Super Saver Cherry Red and White.
For more information about the project including progress updates, please visit

Add "Support Special Olympics" to Your April Safeway Shopping List.
For the third consecutive year Special Olympics Washington has been invited to be part of the April point
of service fundraising promotion with Safeway stores across the state! Visit
your neighborhood Safeway store from March 28 – May 2, 2010 and make a donation
at checkout. Last year, Special Olympics participated in this promotion with
Easter Seals and raised $11.2 million in the US and Canada—an increase of $1.2
million from 2008. With your support again we believe that the Special Olympics
partnership will continue to impact the success of Safeway's April promotion.
Proceeds will benefit Special Olympics and Easter Seals in local communities, which will allow us to
provide greater services and programs for our 9,400 athletes and help us
reach many other children and adults with intellectual disabilities
in Washington to bring them into the Special Olympics family.
